RINGANA is an Austrian, family-owned company that makes fresh cosmetics and supplements. A husband-and-wife team, Andreas Wilfinger and Ulla Wannemacher, founded it in 1996 after they read the ingredient list on their young son’s toothpaste and didn’t like what they saw. Three decades later, the founding family still runs the company. Is “Fresh Cosmetics” Real, Or Just A Buzzword?

At RINGANA, “fresh” means something real, and you can check it on the label. RINGANA makes its products in small batches every two days and gives every one a use-by date about six months out, just like fresh food. Most cosmetics are built to sit on a shelf for three years, and that limits what you can put in them. A product built for six months has room for fragile plant ingredients including fresh juices, ferments, and delicate plant compounds at levels most cosmetics never attempt.

Your kitchen already taught you this. A carton of orange juice built to last for months never tastes like the glass you squeeze yourself, and coffee, herbs, and bread behave the same way. Older is not automatically worse, but you stop expecting it to shine. Skincare made with plant oils and antioxidants lives under that same clock. RINGANA turned the usual question around. Rather than asking how long a product could survive on the shelf, they asked how to get it into your hands while it’s still at its peak. Then they built the company around that answer.

Frequent small batches are one part of how RINGANA goes without synthetic preservatives. I read the full ingredient lists on creams, serums, toners, cleansers, body wash, sun care, hand care, and lip care and found none of the common ones: no phenoxyethanol, no parabens, no benzyl alcohol, no formaldehyde releasers, and no isothiazolinones. Not even gentle sodium benzoate or potassium sorbate, which most clean brands use.

How Does RINGANA Keep Products Safe Without Synthetic Preservatives?

RINGANA keeps products safe with a layered method called a hurdle system. Instead of one strong chemical, it uses several small barriers against germs:

• Multi-purpose ingredients: Their main job is to moisturize or blend, but they also slow germ growth. Examples: pentylene glycol, propanediol, glycerin, glyceryl caprylate, phenethyl alcohol, and caprylyl glycol.
• pH control: Lactic acid, citric acid, and sodium citrate set a pH that germs don’t like.
• Ferments and plant extracts: Radish root ferment, aspen bark extract, and rosemary extract help fight microbes.
• Sterile production and airless packaging: These keep germs out in the first place.
• Antioxidants: Vitamin E and sodium phytate keep the fresh plant material from going bad.

The last hurdle is the key one: a short shelf life. Unopened products last for six months from production, and each one is labeled with its use-by date, just like food. That’s the trade the whole idea rests on, and it cuts both ways. A product built to last three years on a shelf limits what you can put in it. What Is Actually Inside RINGANA Products?

Inside, RINGANA acts less like a “free-from” brand and more like a potent formulation house. The active ingredients are strong and, better yet, the brand states the amounts.

Here’s why this matters. Most brands list their actives without amounts, so you can’t tell whether an ingredient is there to work or just to look good on the label. RINGANA publishes the percentages, often at the levels used in studies. And because every formula is made fresh, delicate actives reach your skin at their best.

Smoothers

• Encapsulated bakuchiol at 3% and retinal at 0.18%: One is a plant-based retinol alternative; the other is a well-studied form of vitamin A. Both are at meaningful levels.
• Peptides, named and measured: The Eye Serum lists palmitoyl tripeptide-1 (0.02%), acetyl hexapeptide-8 (0.005%), palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 (0.001%), and acetyl tetrapeptide-5 (0.001%). The Eye Cream brings acetyl tetrapeptide-5 and acetyl tetrapeptide-2 (0.05% each), dipeptide-2 (0.03%), and carnosine (0.10%), a two-amino-acid peptide with antioxidant benefits. The Lifting Booster pairs a 1% copper peptide with acetyl hexapeptide-1, palmitoyl tripeptide-38, and three more peptides for an instantly firmer, smoother look.
• Paracress extract: a flowering herb from the daisy family (acmella oleracea), sometimes called the toothache plant. In the Anti Wrinkle Serum and Lifting Booster, it gives expression lines an instant, temporary firming effect.

Brighteners And Clarifiers

• Niacinamide at 4 to 5% and vitamin C up to 15%: These are the ranges the research supports.
• Licorice root at 10%, willow bark at 3%, and zinc PCA: the Clarifying Booster trio for skin that looks clearer, calmer, and less shiny.

Moisture Magnets And Barrier Helpers

• Ceramides 2.5%: an encapsulated complex plus a seven-ceramide blend to support the skin’s moisture barrier.
• Hyaluronic acid in several forms: molecules of different sizes hold water on the skin at different levels, so it looks plumper and smoother. The Hydro Serum uses six types, the Body Milk Light five, and the Glow Booster three, and the Lifting Booster lists 2%.
• Ectoin up to 2%: helps skin hold water and stay calm.
• Natural moisturizing factor (NMF) up to 12%: water-attracting molecules like those in your skin’s top layer.
• Saccharide isomerate at 3% and snow fungus: plant-sugar and mushroom hydrators that keep moisture on the skin for hours.

There are two tiers, and knowing the difference helps you read the label. COSMOS ORGANIC is the stricter tier and requires a minimum share of organically farmed ingredients. For RINGANA that share runs from about 45% up to 85%, depending on the product. COSMOS NATURAL means the product meets the natural standard but does not reach the organic threshold.
