A recent study shows that the addition of titanium to stainless steel helps firmly lock nickel within the metal’s structure, meaning – it doesn’t migrate into food.

Even though 316Ti alloy contains about 10–14% nickel, the research suggests that generally nickel-sensitive people can still use it safely.

This is great news for people who are sensitive or allergic to nickel. (Note: if you’re not allergic to nickel, and the stainless-steel cookware you are using works fine for you – there is no need to replace it with 316Ti.)

As part of my research into 316Ti, I reached out to several cookware companies, including:

  • Heritage Steel
  • Health Craft
  • Saladmaster
  • Nutricraft, and
  • Hestan Culinary.

Heritage Steel is the one I chose because:

  • Their cookware is reasonably priced.
  • It’s manufactured in the US.
  • Their BBB rating is A+.
  • It’s a family-owned business.
  • I appreciated the thorough way they answered my questions.

Heritage Steel makes two lines of 5-ply cookware, which helps distribute heat evenly and makes cooking more reliable:

• Eater Series — made from 304 (18/10) stainless steel
• Titanium Series — made from titanium-reinforced Ti316 stainless steel

Heritage also makes excellent stainless steel baking pans.
