This is the product I reach for almost every morning: facial sunscreen, primer, and light-coverage foundation in one. Crunchi Sunlight Tinted SPF 30 brightens, hydrates, and leaves a natural dewy finish, and you can apply it with your fingertips. Of everything I use, this is my favorite. Below: what the 9.4% zinc oxide does, how to pick your shade without guessing, and how this compares to the Beautifully Flawless Foundation.

More info

One product, three jobs

If you do not need full coverage, Crunchi Sunlight Tinted SPF 30 can replace your facial sunscreen, primer, and foundation. It is dermatologically tested safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The lightweight texture blends easily, even with just your fingertips.

What is inside

  • 9.4% non-nano zinc oxide. Filters both UVA and UVB rays, stays on the surface of your skin (it does not penetrate), and does not harm the environment.
  • The highest purity mineral pigments, iron oxides and ethically sourced mica, third-party tested to keep heavy metal content as low as possible.
  • Stable vitamin C (3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) and niacinamide, clinically proven antioxidants that help brighten skin and reduce the appearance of pores.
  • Squalane and hyaluronic acid for deep, long-lasting hydration, plumper-looking skin with fewer visible fine lines, and a stronger skin barrier.
  • A compact glass jar with a BPA-free, BPS-free, and phthalate-free cap and pump.

Picking your shade

There are five shades: Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Deep, and Deep. They adapt to your skin tone, so there is no agonizing over cool versus warm undertones. For reference, I wear 2.5 in the foundation, and Light Medium matches my skin tone the best.

How to use

  1. Apply one pump to the back of your hand, using it as a palette.
  2. Smooth the formula over clean, prepped skin with your fingertips until evenly distributed. Alternatively, use the No. 1 Flat Top Brush in half-circle motions.
  3. Optional: finish with Crunchi Translucent Finishing Powder.

Keep in mind: even though it multitasks as makeup, skincare, and SPF, follow your normal skincare routine first, especially if your skin runs dry. Any Crunchi moisturizer, facial oil, or serum layers well underneath.

Sunlight vs. the Beautifully Flawless Foundation

  • Coverage: Sunlight gives light coverage with a natural dewy finish. Beautifully Flawless gives medium-full, buildable coverage with a semi-matte finish.
  • Key ingredients: Sunlight features non-nano zinc oxide, plant squalane, and stable vitamin C. Beautifully Flawless features organic aloe, plant glycerin, and snow mushroom.
  • Shades: Sunlight comes in 5 shades; Beautifully Flawless comes in 11.

Why I trust Crunchi

Personally, I use Crunchi skincare and makeup almost exclusively, and I closely studied every ingredient of every Crunchi product before endorsing the brand. All Crunchi products are non-toxic, cruelty-free, and vegan (except the Hydrogloss Lip Oil, which uses organic beeswax).

Crunchi was also featured in Environmental Health News: their tested products had no detectable levels of organic fluorine, an indicator of PFAS. For the full story, read my Crunchi non-toxic makeup review.

After applying Sunlight, you can follow with Crunchi My Alibi Liquid Concealer and Cheekmate Liquid Blush. To get 15% off and free shipping on your first purchase of $50+, use code ADVOCATE15.
