More info
Most low-cost furniture is made from pressed wood, such as MDF and particleboard. These boards are held together with glues that can release formaldehyde into your air, especially when the furniture is new. Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen and an eye and airway irritant. You spend about a third of your life in your bedroom, so the air there is worth a little extra care.
Naturepedic, the organic mattress company, builds its furniture from solid wood instead. Every collection piece is white oak, one of the hardest North American hardwoods, so it resists dents and warping for decades.
The Adult Collections
- Madera: clean lines and simple proportions. Bed from $2,999, nightstand $799, chest $3,199, dresser $3,699, mirror $599.
- Adelano: bold, architectural shapes. Bed from $2,999, nightstand $799, dresser $3,399.
- Duna Verde: mid-century inspired, with soft, flowing lines. Bed from $3,199, nightstand $999, dresser $3,699.
- Arienzo: white oak paired with airy rattan panels. Bed from $3,199, nightstand $999, chest $3,199, dresser $3,699, mirror $599.
The Savona Kids Collection
Savona is built for children and comes in Natural or Washed White.
- Bed: twin or full platform, or a bunk that separates into two beds. From $999.
- Matching pieces: nightstand $499, chest $1,799, dresser $1,999, trundle drawer $599, bedside tray $119.
- Safety: tested for lead, phthalates, formaldehyde, and heavy metals. It meets US children’s product safety rules (CPSIA) and California Prop 65. It’s also anti-tip tested and comes with anti-tip hardware.
- Ages: 3 and up for the platform bed, 6 and up for the top bunk.
Which One Should You Choose?
- Choose any adult collection based on your style. All four are solid FSC-certified white oak, and Arienzo adds rattan panels.
- Choose Savona for a child’s room. Its GREENGUARD Gold certification has stricter emission limits, made for spaces where kids spend time.
- On a tighter budget? Naturepedic also sells simpler bases: the enGauge metal bed frame from $149, the Deluxe Organic Bed Foundation from $399, and the emBrace 360 platform bed frame from $899.

What The Certifications Mean
- GREENGUARD: an independent lab tests the furniture for chemical emissions into your air. The adult bed carries GREENGUARD certification. Savona carries GREENGUARD Gold, the stricter level.
- UL Formaldehyde Free: validated by the same lab, UL. This matters most for the plywood slats, since glue is where formaldehyde usually hides.
- FSC: the wood comes from responsibly managed forests. This one is about the planet, not your health.
- The finish: water-based, low-VOC, and safe for food contact under FDA standards.
How To Care For It
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
- Blot spills right away with a damp cloth.
- Skip furniture polish, wax, and chemical cleaners. They can damage the water-based finish and add the very chemicals you’re avoiding.
- Keep it out of direct sun, and tighten the hardware now and then.
Why This Furniture Earned A Spot Here
Swapping pressed-wood bedroom furniture for solid wood is one of the higher-impact changes you can make for your indoor air. It works quietly, every night, for years. Naturepedic gets the details right: solid oak, no MDF or particleboard, formaldehyde-free validated slats, and a gentle finish backed by third-party testing.
You don’t need to replace every piece at once. If you’re buying one thing, start with the bed or the piece in a child’s room.
