MEET THE EXPERT BEHIND THE DIAPER RATING LIST
Hi! I’m Irina.
I still remember thinking that the brown color of Seventh Generation diapers meant that they were unbleached. As a new mom, I can remember trying to make sense of diapers. What was toxic? What was truly safe? I called diaper manufacturers, but they gave me conflicting answers. My analytical mind needed to get to the bottom of the diaper toxins problem so I could rest easy and stop worrying!
When it came time to return to the workforce, I decided that instead of returning to my financial analyst job, I would use my 9 years of college education to become a full-time consumer educator and advocate.
I spent the first three years reading scientific and medical studies, reading and deciphering ingredients/materials of consumer products, asking questions of manufacturers, chemists, medical doctors, naturopaths, nutritionists, cosmetologists, environmental agencies, consumer product agencies, and non-profits. The reality is that there is no college degree you can receive to understand the safety of diapers—or any other consumer products! Still, the discoveries I had made would change the lives of babies and their moms for the better.
After 3 years of full-time research, I created my first edition of the Diaper Rating List and Baby Wipes Rating List.
Today, consumer product research, consumer education and manufacturer and retailer education are my full-time occupation. Rather than me having to chase down companies to hold them accountable for the ingredients they use in their products, manufacturers are coming to me to provide THEM advice on which ingredients to choose to make their products safe! Likewise, I work with retailers to advise them on which products are safe enough to sell.
In 2019 I was interviewed for the Pretty Toxic documentary film. You can view its trailer here.
I am passionate about consumer health and safety, and that’s why I create comprehensive, research-based guides for caring moms like you.
