  • Aquasana Reverse Osmosis Water Filter
  • Aquasana carries four under sink water filter models
  • The most powerful one, OptimH2O® Reverse Osmosis + Claryum®,  includes granular activated carbon, catalytic carbon, ion exchange, sub-micron filtration, reverse osmosis membrane, and remineralization technologies.
  • There is a re-mineralization cartridge that is supposed to put back calcium, magnesium, and potassium into the filtered water.
  • Made in the USA
  • In 2021, I bought the Aquasana Reverse Osmosis Water Filter and tested the filtered water with the Tap Score service.  (By the way, I think that to know for sure how a particular water filter performs on your water, it is a really good idea to test your tap water first, and then test the filtered water once the filter has been installed.  The reason for that is that water in different locations has different chemistry: contaminants, pH, and hardness.)
  • Our Tap Score test showed that the Aquasana Reverse Osmosis Water Filter removed the contaminants well, including 100% of uranium.  (Yes, we have uranium in our water.  To learn more about potential harms of uranium and what the government does about it, you can take a look at my What You Can Do About Uranium in Water blog post.)
  • However, it raised the water’s pH to 9.5, which, according to my doctor Myrto Ashe, MD, MPH, IFMCP, is bad for our natural stomach acidity and can interfere with digestion and absorption of nutrients.  In addition, we did not like the taste of the water.  We started avoiding drinking water, which is counterproductive.
  • Furthermore, when a plumber, recommended by Aquasana, installed the Aquasana Reverse Osmosis Water Filter, it leaked.  It took Aquasana 2 weeks to ship a replacement part even though I paid for expedited shipping.  Needless to say, I can’t vouch for the quality of Aquasana filters and their customer service.
  • In short, we returned the Aquasana Reverse Osmosis water filter and use the Pure Effect water filter instead.  We are happy with that decision.
  • You can read more about Pure Effect here.
