  1. The Kleen Kanteen 8 oz tumbler looks perfect for my 19 month old but the lid is made of polypropylene (#5 plastic) and has a silicone gasket. Is this safe? They do not have other options. Any ideas for 8 oz mugs for kids that hold warm liquids?

    1. Hi Gina! Thank you for reaching out to I Read Labels for You! Polypropylene is not ideal, but among available practical options, it is a better kind of plastic than others.

  2. What do you think of Coyuchi products as I don’t see them in your list of recommendations but they seem to be GOTS cerified?

  3. Even though Christmas is still some months away, we have to start thinking about it, about the food that should not be missing in the kitchen and its accessories, the decoration of the house and, of course, the gifts for the whole family, the latter being very important to take into account the contributions of this article.

  4. A wonderful list of gift ideas for those people who are special to us. Gift ideas for any occasion.

    thank you

  5. Hi, Irina!! First I would like to say thank you for all your work!!!! Probably half of the brands I use are thanks to you, starting from organic pajamas to organic clothes, to pots, to organic mattresses and pillows , and ALL of my skin care!!! I am truly truly grateful to you and your guides and your ebooks ( and I purchased all of them). THANK YOU!!!!!
A question please: now I am in a search of wool comforter and I see you have 2 here : holy lamb and sols and last year you had a different brand recommended in your holiday gift. Please tell me your personal opinion on which one you most like.
    Thank you again
    Galina

    1. Hi, Galina:

I’m really glad that you decided to get a wool comforter. I think they are the best. One of the Savvy Consumer Circle members speaks very highly of Sol products including their wool comforter. But it looks like that at the moment they offer only twin sizes. Holy Lamb, on the other hand, offers a variety of options in prices, sizes, warmth, and they even have a dual-sized comforter. My son sleeps under a Holy Lamb comforter and he likes it. I spoke with the owner of Holy Lamb and even called the mill that processes their wool so I think their premium wool is safe enough if you can’t afford certified organic wool. Does it help? ~Irina

  6. Irina, I really appreciate you updating this list every year. I look forward to ordering many of these products for gifts and I’m so thankful for the discount codes.

    1. Thank you for your feedback, Lorie! We are currently updating the Holiday Gift Idea guide again. So, be on the lookout for new codes and products!

  7. Thanks for this great list! I was disappointed not to see Marie Veronique on the list of skin care. Has that company fallen out of favor with you? I’ve started using most of their anti-aging line based on your review of the Gentle Retinol Serum. Do you think the True Botanicals Repair Serum is better?

    1. Hi, Jody: thank you for asking. I still like Marie Veronique products… However, I believe that True Botanicals serum is more effective. I am 45 and have to use only the best skin care products as I want to continue looking 10 years younger. Plus, I was able to interview True Botanicals COO and became very confident in their desire and ability to do the right thing. ~Irina

      1. Thank you so much Irena. I value your diligence and knowledge! Now is a good time to try True Botanicals. I plan to do just that. One can’t stop time but good care can certainly forestall some of it’s effects.

  8. Great list! I use Annemarie! I love my Kleen Kanteen cup as well. We use and my husband really likes Lodge cookware. Once you get the hang of washing (or rather not washing them), they really work like non-stick. I’m not sure I understand your post about Numi tea?? I have their teas, but your post says…”All other organic teas I have found hemp cellulose in their tea bags.” Am I undersanding Numi makes the tea bags out of hemp cellulose, where other companies say they use it, but just add the cellulose “into” their tea bags?? Kinda like wines added wood chips to their wine barrels for that French or American wood effect on wine? I can’t do Crunchi…they use dimethicone and for me, that is a big no. It might work for others, but I’ve had too many issues with the skin on my body after using lotions with it for many years. It’s hard now to maintain a normal skin barrier. Otherwise, it looks really clean and that can be hard to find. What a wonderful gift and resource to us for you to put this together (not to mention the time in reviewing many products to make or not make the list!)! Thank you so much and Happy Thanksgiving!

  9. Irina,

have you ever come across a company called: rawganique. I came across them today online and they claim to be make organic cotton, flax linen, and cannabis hemp products in USA, Canada, and Europe from organic cotton, flax linen, and cannabis hemp grown and naturally processed in USA and Europe.

Please let me know I am on the search for a hemp shower curtain.

    Thank you,
    Maria

      1. I’ve been looking for an organic bathrobe for over 2 months now … and I have a question – why, everything that’s organic, has to be soooo ugly? I’m ok with unbleached fabric and pale colors, but what about the cut itself? Why can’t they sew it in a way that makes a woman look attractive in their clothing? Instead, most of organic clothes look like potato sacks or granny panties. Is it a general trend that women that care what their clothes are made out of don’t care how they make them look?
Just wanted to vent after looking at some rawganique designs … good lord, my husband would laugh his head off if he saw me wearing that.

        1. There is a company Canadian based called Skin and quite a few of their products are organic cotton or organic pima cotton. You can find them also on major department store websites (search: skin, organic cotton) or they have their own site although the bigger stores have way better markdowns. Anyway, they are kind of pricey but I’ve bought several cotton robes and undergarments and pajamas/nightgowns and they are very well made and in my opinion very attractive. This is a robe I have in white and pale green: https://skinworldwide.com/collections/organic/products/karin-robe?variant=3518190026779 but I think these are getting mostly sold out as they’ve been for sale since the summer. But I find them very pretty and super soft. I know they are more expensive but the few pieces I’ve bought I don’t regret at all. I don’t work for them or anything like that but I’ve searched and searched also for nice organic clothing for women. I also like Coyuchi very much.

    1. Hi,
Just be careful with Rawganique as I was considering purchasing there before but there were quite a lot of bad reviews. I think they were mainly about customer service and being ignored when you’d purchased something and had an issue with. Not necessarily their products. I didn’t feel comfortable purchasing there after reading reviews.

    1. I do not recommend their yoga mats as even though they claimed that they are made of PVC without heavy metals, phthalates, etc, they won’t tell us what they use instead. I guess we just have to wait for a whistleblower to educate us on that. I see that they have a nice robe collection by Coyuchi. They are certified by GOTS so the dyes should be okay. Let me know if you have specific questions. ~Irina

  10. Hi Irina, thank you for such a great resource! So useful during this time of the year.

Quick question – you recommend blankets from the Ultimate Green store, what about other items they sell? Did you do any research on them? I am looking at some clothing options and yoga mats. thanks!

    1. Hi, Natalia: it is hard to make a blanket statement about all products sold in the Ultimate Green store. Let me know what you are considering, and I can take a look for you. ~Irina

  11. I just love this list, thank you Irina. Definitely going to get some of the books! I was wondering, bedding wise, organic is the best option in 100% cotton, but what about 100% cotton sateen, or percale?

  12. Regarding the kitchen, did you find something out about Elves & Angels? I know you previously wrote an article on them and Camden Rose so I am just curious. They also have kitchens. I am actually trying to decide between Camden Rose’s playstand or Elves & Angels for my almost 3 1/2 year old son.

    1. Hi, Jessica: I had not looked into Elves & Angels since I wrote that post. But since you asked I’ve looked and I see that Elves & Angels use solid wood and CARB II plywood whereas Camden Rose is all solid wood. You might want to ask about that. ~Irina

  13. Thank you for your list, Irina! 🙂 I LOVE Coyuchi as well for their organic bedding options. This is an awesome resource for holiday shopping! Thanks again!

  14. Thank you Irina! I had considered glass but had not found smaller sets like those. We use glass cups with a lid & straw so going with smaller glass plates is great. Thank you again!

  15. Thank you for this list. Love the ideas on here & I will be adding some items to my wish list. I was wondering what your thoughts on kids plates are? We are looking to replace the ones we have (& take our last step to being plastic free for the kids) & we are considering bamboo plates by Avanchy or Love Mae. Do you have any other suggestions or things to look for to make sure we are choosing a safe option? Thank you!

    1. Hi, Kendra: bamboo is definitely better than plastic. However, there is not much information availble as to what may leach out of bamboo and most bamboo comes from China. You want to ask where bamboo came from, if bamboo is organic, and if there is any chlorine bleach and glue. Have you considered glass? I know it can break but tempered glass is more durable. These glass plates are made in France. Let me know what you find out. ~Irina

  16. Love the holiday gift list suggestions! Thank you!!! It will be helpful and I already know what I will get for some of my family members now!
