Best Non-Toxic Holiday Gift Ideas
Looking for that perfect holiday present for your loved one? Check out my holiday gift ideas list, a result of a decade-long research project that never stops! Actually, I own and use most of what is on this holiday gift idea list. Consequently, there is hardly any potential increase in the risk of cancer, hormone disruption, or allergic reaction. So, you can feel good about giving a holiday present from this list to your loved ones! You can either read my short reviews of the products or jump straight to the bottom of the blog post for the direct links and discount codes .
Best Non-Toxic Holiday Gift Ideas
My Research Helps You Make Safer Choices
Several events have affected my decision to devote my life to researching the consumer market for safe products. My father’s premature death from cancer, and me being the victim of a hit-and-run accident have definitely played their roles. The major workup I underwent after the accident revealed Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. As if one autoimmune disease was not enough, a second diagnosis followed – Addison’s disease. (You can learn more about that in my blogposts about breast implants and my health update after explant surgery.)
In between, I was blessed with a pregnancy and a healthy baby. I set out to find the safest products for my son and share my non-toxic finds with other parents. As a result, the I Read Labels for You blog was born in 2013. Today, our website offers multiple sources for you to be able to make informed decisions about consumer products. There are hundreds of free blogposts, paid services and e-books, and Savvy Consumer Circle membership. You are welcome to join us and enjoy your healthy journey together with I Read Labels for You!
Home And Wardrobe Holiday Gift Ideas Under $35
First, wool dryer balls are a great alternative to chemical-laden dryer sheets. They soften the laundry and reduce its drying time, wrinkles, and static. Branch Basics carries great wool dryer balls. I love Branch Basics, not only because it is a woman-owned small business, but mostly because all of their products are safe and practical! (Learn more about Branch Basics Dishwashing, Laundry, & Cleaning Products here.) On all starter kits, you can get 15% discount by using the READ15 discount code. You can also buy wool dryer balls on Amazon and iHerb here. (By the way, iHerb, an online retailer that is present in over 180 countries, has eco-friendly packaging and provides either $10 off or a 10% discount. For your convenience, I’ve created Irina’s Approved Products on iHerb.)
Second, bar soap can be a great holiday gift for anybody who prefers bar soap to liquid soap. I like Meliora Means Better bar soap because it generates good lather, is not drying, and does not get soggy. Plus, the packaging is absolutely plastic free. (Read my review of Meliora eco non-toxic cleaning products.) My other favorite soap bars are both Cocoa Butter Bar Soap and Sweet Orange Bar Soap by Pure Haven because they fit perfectly in my hand. I really love the soap’s shape. And here is the best bar soap dish I found (actually, my husband claims he found it!).
Third, Kosmatology glass foaming soap dispenser is a great gift for those who prefer liquid soap and want to reduce plastic consumption. You can use it with hand soap refills, such as Kosmatology hand soap. By the way, Branch Basics concentrate makes excellent hand soap, too, especially if you prefer no essential oils and a pH-balanced hand wash. (Use READ15 to get 15% off on any starter kit.)
Next, for face towels and wash cloths, check out Delilah Home. Their towels are made of Turkish cotton and are GOTS-certified organic.
Further, consider these super absorbent and fast-drying GOTS-certified organic Wear Pact waffle hand towels that are made in a GOTS-certified fair trade factory in Turkey. To get 20% off your first purchase, click on this link (I will get a $20 credit). If you have already bought from Wear Pact before, click here.
Additionally, Wear Pact offers cute organic clothes made in GOTS-certified fair-trade facility in India that won’t break the bank and are certified organic by GOTS. Some pieces are “at least 95% organic,” and others are “made with at least 70% organic.” You can certainly find nice clothes there for under $35. If you are a first-time buyer, click on this link and get 20% off (I will get a $20 credit). If you have already bought from Wear Pact before, click here. My husband loves their undershirts and comfortable loungewear pants!
Essential Oils And Candles Under $35
Essential oils are an excellent holiday gift for essential oil lovers. Keep in mind though that some people can be allergic to essential oils and some essential oils should not be inhaled by kids, pets, or pregnant/nursing women. My top choice for essential oils is Plant Therapy because they disclose GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry) test reports as well as safety and usage information. Please read it and take it seriously.
Another nice holiday present that is good for enhancing holiday ambiance is a non-toxic candle. For instance, Fontana candles have wooden wicks and are made of beeswax and coconut oil instead of petroleum wax. The candles are hand-poured in Pennsylvania and come in a variety of essential oil scents. Get 15% off with the IRead15 code.
In addition, we use and like Natural Sloth’s beeswax and coconut oil candles, which are hand-poured in Texas and scented only with essential oils. You can get 10% off with the Read10 discount code. Do you have a friend who is into candles? Look no further – this gift is for them! (Learn more about Non-Toxic Candles here.)
Kitchen Holiday Gift Ideas Under $35
To begin, these foldable reusable grocery shopping bags with 6 bottle sleeves are made of GOTS-certified organic cotton fabric in India. In addition, they have durable handles, come in a set of 3, and are available in five colors. We use these bags and love them! Check out these and other produce bags in the “Produce Bags” section of the IRLFY Amazon shop.
Further, my son and I really enjoyed making strawberry popsicles with these plastic-free popsicle molds. You can also find them, as well as many other great and safe products, in the “Kitchen Gadgets and Appliances” section in the IRLFY Amazon shop.
Next, tea can be a great holiday present for tea lovers like me. Based on my research of the bagged tea industry, plastic-free bleach-free hemp cellulose tea bags are the safest. However, in an ideal world, it is best to use loose or powdered tea without any tea bags. For example, check out Pique tea powder. I also included some of the best organic loose tea on my iHerb Favorite Foods list. And this is a plastic-free stainless steel infuser to use. Plus, this 13 oz Rishi Simple Brew glass tea pot will make your gift to a tea-lover complete! (Get either $10 or 10% off shopping on iHerb with my link.)
Furthermore, Duralex makes a variety of dinnerware, bakeware, and drinkware. They are all made of lead-free glass in France. Even their colored pieces were tested free of lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury. Some yellow glasses had elevated levels of barium, so out of an abundance of caution, I suggest avoiding them. To learn more about Duralex, click here.
Lastly, a useful and practical kitchen gift is Saltverk sea salt (my favorite kind is with seaweed). What makes this salt unique is the place of its origin. Namely, it comes from a stream in the Arctic Ocean off the coast of Iceland that is reportedly the cleanest place on the planet. Moreover, Saltverk uses 100% geothermal energy, which is good for the environment. Importantly, their test report shows insignificant amounts of cadmium, mercury, and arsenic. And the lead level is the best I have seen in salt so far.
Mugs, Water Bottles, And Storage Containers Under $35
My husband likes Klean Kanteen vacuum insulated Rise mug that you can find on their website. You can also find Klean Kanteen and many other safe products in my Amazon shop in the “Dishes, Mugs, and Cups” section. It is a perfect holiday gift for slow drinkers and busy parents. Indeed, it will keep a cold drink cold and a hot drink hot for a long time.
Also, we use and love these lead-free coffee mugs made in the US. Anything ceramic is always suspected for lead and cadmium contamination, and glass is a much safer alternative. You can also find them and many other safe products in my Amazon shop in the “Dishes, Mugs, and Cups” section. To learn more, please read my lead-free glassware options guide.
Since keeping your body hydrated is crucial, I recommend this Klean Kanteen Reflect Plastic-Free Bottle. What I like about it is that it has no plastic that can touch the liquid, and there is no paint that can come off. Conveniently, you can buy just the plastic-free cap and use it with any Klean Kanteen water bottle you already own. You can also find it in the IRLFY Amazon shop in the “Water Bottles” section if you prefer along with Hydro Flask stainless steel water bottle and Life Factory glass water bottle. (Learn more about Best And Safest Water Bottles here and about why Plastic Bottles Are Not Safe here.)
Further, great food storage options made in the US include Pyrex glass containers and Anchor Hocking glass containers. I prefer Anchor Hocking containers with TrueSeal lids as they are airtight and leak-proof. You can find these and more options in the “Storage Containers and Mixing Bowls” section of the IRLFY Amazon shop.
Moreover, I think a wooden or stainless cooking utensils can be a great holiday gift. They tend to be more expensive than plastic or silicone utensils so it might be a good time to switch. You can find many options in the “Cooking Utensils” section of my Amazon shop.
Options For Kids And Pets Under $35
My son loved playing with these toy kitchen pots and pans. You can find them and many other safer toys in the “Toys” section of my Amazon shop.
For pet lovers, check out this certified organic Pure Haven pet paw balm. It will make both the pet owner and their furry pal happy.
Specifically, for dogs, consider Ayisoro large dog rope toys. Every day, my son plays with our neighbor’s dog who loves to tug. So, my son found this natural cotton toy with no plastic, and the dog loves it. (Maybe I should put my son to work researching other products – every business needs a succession plan!)
Non-Toxic Skin Care Holiday Gift Ideas Under $35
For those with tired feet, this Mint Your Feet balm is an excellent idea. A combination of the mineral scrub and healing balm can not only revive the feet but also uplift the mood.
Next, on Primally Pure website (use READLABELS10 for 10% off), you can find some non-toxic options under $35, such as Almond & Vanilla Body Butter that you can use as hand cream. Another option under $35 is Primally Pure Sea Soak that will give your loved ones an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate.
Further, Pure Haven offers many holiday gift ideas under $35. Some of my personal favorites are Refresh Cleanser with Pre+Probiotics and Foot Therapy Soak. (You can learn more about the company (and other direct sales companies) in my Pure Haven Review blog post. By the way, you do not need to subscribe to them to make a purchase.)
If your friend or family member likes using scrubs, check out Beauty by Earth scrub collection. Also, Beauty by Earth carries a variety of fun toners and mists such as Toner with Rose Water, Youth Restoration Bakuchiol Face Toner, Hyaluronic Acid Face Toner and Facial Mist, and Anti-Aging® Vitamin C Toner. Remember to use the IREAD12 code for a 12% discount on Beauty by Earth products.
For soon-to-be-mothers, consider Earth Mama Organics’ A Little Something for Mama-to-Be Gift Set and A Little Something for the Baby Gift Set. All the products in the sets are either USDA certified organic or contain certified organic ingredients. (You will also benefit from my Helpful List Of Chemicals To Avoid During Pregnancy and Pregnancy Belly Creams And Oils posts.)
Finally, Crunchi facial gentle or charcoal bars as well as body bar are great healthy gifts for people who are keen on reducing plastic usage and pollution. By the way, since 2020, Crunchi has been removing more plastic out of the environment than adding (thank you for supporting their efforts). They use plastic only in the caps of some products. By the way, on the first purchase of $50+, you get 10% off with the ADVOCATE10 discount code.
Non-Toxic Skin Care Ideas Under $35 For Men
Do you have a friend with a beard, or does your husband have one? Primally Pure (use READLABELS10 for 10% off) carries Mojito beard oil and other products for men that can be perfect holiday presents for them. I appreciate the fact that all the ingredient oils are organic, and the packaging is made of glass.
In addition, Wear Pact carries a wide collection of organic men’s socks including even holiday socks. They are made in a GOTS-certified facility based in India. To get 20% off your first purchase, click on this link (I will get a $20 credit). If you are a returning customer of Wear Pact, click here.
Beauty Holiday Gift Options Under $35
First of all, the makeup brand I like most is Crunchi. My favorite Crunchi products under $35 are Highliner® Pencil Eyeliner, Nutribrow™ Eyebrow Pencil, Everluxe™ Lip Crayons (see how the colors look on me here), and Hydrogloss® Lipglosses. All Crunchi products have been 3rd party tested for heavy metals and PFAS with excellent results. To learn more as to why I love this company, please read my Crunchi Non-Toxic Makeup Review blog post. Be sure to use my Crunchi affiliate link and the discount code ADVOCATE10 to get 10% off on the first purchase of $50+.
By the way, this Beauty by Earth USDA organic Mint lip scrub is a great product for dry lips. It is scented with organic spearmint and peppermint essential oils. My husband gave it to me a couple Christmases ago and that’s how I learned about Beauty by Earth. Use the IREAD12 code for 12% discount
If your female friends and family members are into lip tints, Henne Organics Luxury Lip Tints are a great option! They carry various shades packaged in glass. Watch out for the Desire shade though because it contains Red 40 Lake. To learn more about PFAS and heavy metal testing and get a 15% discount code, click here. You can also check out Henne Luxury Lip Balms.
Non-Toxic Home And Wardrobe Holiday Gift Ideas Over $35
If you are in the market for new furniture made of organic and natural materials, check out Pure Upholstery Furniture. We love ours! They have budget-friendly items, too. Please mention my name (Irina Webb) to receive 5% off.
For beautiful GOTS-certified organic rugs and wall-to-wall carpeting, consider shopping at Organic Weave. To get 5% off, please use the discount code READLABELS5 at checkout.
If your loved one is into fitness, a Scoria yoga mat may be a good fit for them. As a result of my comprehensive yoga mat survey, I believe the Scoria cork yoga mat is the safest and best performing. To clean the mat, I suggest using Branch Basics Concentrate following its dilution instructions. Personally, I use Branch Basics for many purposes, and, I believe, it works well. At least, my bathroom tiles, grout, and stainless-steel cookware always shine like new after a wash with a Branch Basics solution. Use the READ15 code to get 15% off on any starter kit. (Learn more in my Branch Basics Safe Cleaning Products Review.)
Further, for GOTS-certified organic bath, beach, and pool towels, shop at Delilah Home.
Wear Pact also carries organic bath towels as well as cute organic clothes, some of which are made in a GOTS-certified facility in India. Both my husband and I own and love their clothes. Get 20% off your first purchase by clicking on this link (I will get a $20 credit). If you have already bought from them before, click here.
Speaking of clothes, I know I would be happy to receive a hooded jacket! With outdoor clothing, especially those made with durable water repellent coating (DWR), the goal is to find PFAS-free apparel. My suggestion is Mammut Hooded Jackets that were tested for PFAS compounds by Toxic-Free Future. The Mammut rain jackets tested below their screening level for fluorine and appeared to be made with alternatives to PFAS. Check them out in the “Clothing” section of my Amazon shop .
Lastly, an air purifier is a good holiday present of clean air, especially if your loved ones have wildfire smoke seasons, are remodeling their house, or suffer from allergies. After years of research, I have picked out two brands I like the most – Austin Air and Air Doctor. Through me, you can buy them at various discounts depending on the model (for Austin Air discount email me). This Comprehensive Mobile Air Purifier Guide will help you choose the right air cleaner.
Bedroom Product Options Over $35
To begin with, a great holiday gift for anybody who wants to be comfortable and safe is this unique Naturepedic organic adjustable pillow (IREAD15 code for 15% off). You can adjust it to the perfect amount of softness and support you need. I used to sleep on a down pillow but became allergic to down. This organic pillow is the closest to down: soft but supportive. It is perfect for side sleepers.
In addition, we love our organic Naturepedic mattresses! They are super comfortable and reasonably priced. Learn more and get a 15% discount code here.
For a budget-friendly version of Naturepedic, check out Happsy mattresses. The safety and quality are the same as those of Naturepedic mattresses. Find out why they are less costly and get $225 off here.
Next, a Holy Lamb Organics comforter is a cozy holiday present for anyone in your family. Holy Lamb Organics carries wool and certified organic wool comforters of all sizes. They also carry new mom and baby items, such as a changing table pad and nursing pillow as well as organic blankets, throws, and bath towels. (Learn more about Non-Toxic Changing Table Pads here.)
Finally, Delilah Home carries GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton and 100% organic hemp bedding sets as well as individual pieces, such as pillowcases, sheets, and duvets, all made in Portugal.
Non-Toxic Kitchen Holiday Gift Ideas Over $35
First, Treeboard cutting board is the best cutting board I have used. It is the only board made from one piece of solid wood and NOT finished with mineral oil. (Learn more in my post about Best Solid Wood Cutting Boards.)
Second, this old-school plastic-free coffee maker is an excellent holiday idea for coffee lovers. I have done extensive research into coffee makers to find one without plastic or silicone. While I do not drink coffee, my husband does and uses this one. You can find it in the “Kitchen Gadgets and Appliances” section of my Amazon shop.
Third, this electric pressure cooker is a great gift for a new family. Using its slow cooker setting, you can avoid potential concerns of heavy metals in ceramic slow cooker inserts. (Learn more in my post about Instant Pot Pressure Cooker.) You can find it in the “Cookware” section of my Amazon store.
Also, consider this Homeasy electric stainless steel meat grinder/food processor that you can find in the “Kitchen Gadgets and Appliances” section of my Amazon store.
Further, Delilah Home carries GOTS-certified 100% organic Turkish cotton kitchen towels made in Portugal. They look nice and elegant.
Next, this stainless-steel electric kettle is void of a plastic or silicone ring that many glass electric kettles have. I love using it, and its various settings are so helpful for tea and coffee drinkers alike. You can find it in the “Kitchen Gadgets and Appliances” section of my Amazon store.
Furthermore, Duralex makes a variety of beautiful dinnerware, bakeware, and drinkware. Duralex makes its lead-free glass products in France. Even their colored pieces were tested free of lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury by Lead Safe Mama. As a warning, the yellow glasses she tested had elevated levels of barium, so I suggest avoiding them out of an abundance of caution. To learn more about Duralex, click here.
Last, Pure Effect water filters are my top choice for a water filtration system. Indeed, I have researched many water filters and even tested my tap water and filtered water to choose the best filter. I like Pure Effect for the great quality of products and caring and knowledgeable customer service. Besides, their filter works well even on our extremely hard water polluted with carcinogenic uranium. Plus, it does not demineralize water as Reverse Osmosis water systems do. The water tastes so yummy that my son drinks it with pleasure. (Learn more about Pure Effect Water Filtration Systems here.)
Another great option for a water filtration system is Clean Water Revival. They can help you select the water filtration system based on the contaminants in your drinking water. To learn more about this unique company and to get a discount code, click here.
Cookware And Dinnerware Options Over $35
For starters, cast iron cookware has a special place in my heart … and in my kitchen. I love to eat! Many years ago, when I gave my husband a cast iron skillet as a holiday present, he was not super happy. Now, he loves cast iron cookware and does not even remember that he used to like non-stick cookware. My favorite cast iron cookware brands are Stargazer and Field because they have smooth surfaces that work as non-stick. (Learn more about Cast Iron Pots And Pans here.)
Alternatively, stainless steel cookware is a great option, too. The 360 Cookware (IREAD25 for 25% off) is a US company that makes a variety of stainless steel cookware, including lead-free slow cookers and bakeware. We own a slow cooker, a pie pan, and a cookie sheet that are very well made and performing. (Learn more about 360 Cookware here and about Non-Toxic Baking Sheets here.)
In addition, HomiChef Cookware has no nickel in its stainless steel, so it is perfect for people who have nickel sensitivity. Most of all, we like our HomiChef steamer. The cookware is made in China, though. Unlike some other stainless-steel products, I believe it is not crucial to avoid China in terms of safety. By the way, HomiChef is much more affordable than All-Clad cookware. You can find these two and other stainless steel cookware options in the “Cookware” section of my Amazon store.
Speaking of All-Clad cookware, it is made of 18/10 stainless steel in the US, except for the accessories and tea kettles that are made in China. You can see the set we own here and feel free to read my Safe Cookware Guide.
To conclude this section, we like using Corelle dinnerware sets.
For your information, Tamara Rubin of Lead Safe Mama tested these dishes independently. She found them to be lead- and cadmium-free, with the exception of mugs. You can find Corelle and other dinnerware options in the “Dishes, Mugs, and Cups” section of my Amazon store. (Learn more about safe dinnerware in my Lead Free Glassware Brands post.)
Other Fun Holiday Gift Ideas Over $35
I wear these blue light blocking glasses 2-3 hours before bed, which helps me fall asleep and sleep much better. (Speaking of sleep, consider getting a CBD hemp oil that’s truly improved the quality of my sleep!)
Finally, though unconventional, a water testing kit can be a useful holiday present. It is simple and effective. (Learn more about How To Test Your Water Quality At Home here.)
Options For Men, Kids, And Pets Over $35
For men, Jackfir (use IRINA15 for 15% off the first purchase) makes skincare products for men: a facial cleanser, a shave cream, a moisturizer, and an eye cream. I vetted every ingredient of the products for safety. My husband uses these products and likes them a lot.
As for kids, consider Castleware organic baby and kids’ sleepwear. It is a brand of luxury. These are our standard new-baby gifts, and everyone always raves about them! In fact, it was one of the first brands I decided to promote when I started my blog. Trust me, new parents will rave about the quality of this gift! (Learn more in my post about Best Organic Cotton Pajamas.)
And as for toys, in the “Toys” section of my Amazon store, you will certainly find something that fits your needs and preferences.
For pets, Naturepedic GOTS-certified organic pet beds with a washable waterproof cover are the way to go. Use the IREAD15 code to get 15% off.
Also, check out Delilah Home pet beds whose removable and washable cover is made from the highest quality organic cotton and the fill is made from PET-recycled bottles. (By the way, to give your pet a bath, you can use Branch Basics Concentrate following the dilution instructions. (Learn more here and get 15% off on any starter kit.)
My Top Favorite Non-Toxic Beauty Brands For Holiday Present Options Over $35
Of course, Crunchi skincare and makeup are my favorite. This is the only vegan, cruelty-free skincare and makeup company that encompasses all three ideals I value – transparency, safety, and performance. All their products are 3rd party tested for heavy metals. Also, Crunchi products are excellent gifts for people who seek to reduce plastic pollution. Currently, they have several nice holiday gift sets. (Learn more in my Crunchi Non-Toxic Makeup Review.)
My Absolute favorite Crunchi products to give as gifts include (use the ADVOCATE10 discount code to get 10% off on the 1st purchase of $50+):
- I AM Bright™ Vitamin C Facial Serum
- Clarilight Facial Essence
- Goldenlight Multi-Peptide Serum
- Daylight Cream
- Daylight Advanced Facial Cream
- Nightlight® Advanced Facial Cream
- Powerlight Eye Cream
- I AM Polished Facial Exfoliator
- SPF30 Sunlight Facial Sunscreen.
I love the spa effect from the exfoliator and the hydrating power of the daylight cream. And the vitamin C serum and multi-peptide serum are a must in my non-toxic anti-aging beauty routine as well the eye cream that has many super nutrient ingredients. (Learn more about how to choose the Best Vitamin C Serum here.)
Furthermore, Pure Haven offers a variety of products from shampoos and skincare to cleaning products. Some of my favorites include Sweet Orange Shampoo and Supergreens Conditioner as they clean and condition my hair well leaving it shiny and adding volume. Most importantly, these safe haircare products do not make my scalp itchy. However, people have different preferences when it comes to hair and their water hardness matters, too. Therefore, an easier gift can be my newly discovered favorite is Body Butter with Pre-Probiotics. It is so smooth, just like butter but not greasy. (Visit my Pure Haven Review. Remember that you do not need to sign up to the “preferred customer” program to place an order with Pure Haven. But if you do sign up, you can get free shipping and choose your replenishment schedule.)
Other Options Of Non-Toxic Beauty Products Over $35
First, Blissoma uses raw botanicals with anti-aging properties in their products. Their cleansers are soap-free, pH-balanced, and non-drying to the skin. When I had blemished skin, I had great success with Blissoma Correcting Serum.
Second, consider Beauty by Earth (IREAD12 code for 12% off) anti-aging individual products as well as bundles. For instance, Youth Restoration Bakuchiol Trio Bundle uses a plant-based alternative to retinol. The Hyaluronic Acid Trio Bundle is especially good for those who are sensitive to scents, as this hyaluronic acid collection is unscented – well, at least I did not smell any scent
Third, Primally Pure offers products for hair, including dry shampoo, bath (like a spa kit), body, face, acne-prone skin, men, and babies. Please use the READLABELS10 discount code at checkout.
Next, Annmarie Gianni would be a luxurious gift for any woman. I was especially impressed with Annmarie Probiotic Serum with Tremella – Bio Facial Elixir. It contains a Tremella mushroom extract that has superior hydrating and skin elasticity improvement properties.
Further, Beautycounter has started disclosing independent heavy metal test reports, and, unlike Crunchi, they ship to Canada. Some of their products contain phenoxyethanol and synthetic dyes, so I cannot recommend those. (For a list of Beautycounter products of which I approve, refer to my Beautycounter Review.)
Last, for families, moms-to-be or new moms and their babies, check out Earth Mama Organics gift sets.

The Kleen Kanteen 8 oz tumbler looks perfect for my 19 month old but the lid is made of polypropylene (#5 plastic) and has a silicone gasket. Is this safe? They do not have other options. Any ideas for 8 oz mugs for kids that hold warm liquids?
Hi Gina! Thank you for reaching out to I Read Labels for You! Polypropylene is not ideal, but among available practical options, it is a better kind of plastic than others.
What do you think of Coyuchi products as I don’t see them in your list of recommendations but they seem to be GOTS cerified?
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you for reaching out to IRLFY! Please follow this link to get an email product review: https://ireadlabelsforyou.com/services/ingredient-review/
Even though Christmas is still some months away, we have to start thinking about it, about the food that should not be missing in the kitchen and its accessories, the decoration of the house and, of course, the gifts for the whole family, the latter being very important to take into account the contributions of this article.
A wonderful list of gift ideas for those people who are special to us. Gift ideas for any occasion.
thank you
Hi, Irina!! First I would like to say thank you for all your work!!!! Probably half of the brands I use are thanks to you, starting from organic pajamas to organic clothes, to pots, to organic mattresses and pillows , and ALL of my skin care!!! I am truly truly grateful to you and your guides and your ebooks ( and I purchased all of them). THANK YOU!!!!!
A question please: now I am in a search of wool comforter and I see you have 2 here : holy lamb and sols and last year you had a different brand recommended in your holiday gift. Please tell me your personal opinion on which one you most like.
Thank you again
Galina
Hi, Galina:
I’m really glad that you decided to get a wool comforter. I think they are the best. One of the Savvy Consumer Circle members speaks very highly of Sol products including their wool comforter. But it looks like that at the moment they offer only twin sizes. Holy Lamb, on the other hand, offers a variety of options in prices, sizes, warmth, and they even have a dual-sized comforter. My son sleeps under a Holy Lamb comforter and he likes it. I spoke with the owner of Holy Lamb and even called the mill that processes their wool so I think their premium wool is safe enough if you can’t afford certified organic wool. Does it help? ~Irina
Irina, I really appreciate you updating this list every year. I look forward to ordering many of these products for gifts and I’m so thankful for the discount codes.
Thank you for your feedback, Lorie! We are currently updating the Holiday Gift Idea guide again. So, be on the lookout for new codes and products!
Thanks for this great list! I was disappointed not to see Marie Veronique on the list of skin care. Has that company fallen out of favor with you? I’ve started using most of their anti-aging line based on your review of the Gentle Retinol Serum. Do you think the True Botanicals Repair Serum is better?
Hi, Jody: thank you for asking. I still like Marie Veronique products… However, I believe that True Botanicals serum is more effective. I am 45 and have to use only the best skin care products as I want to continue looking 10 years younger. Plus, I was able to interview True Botanicals COO and became very confident in their desire and ability to do the right thing. ~Irina
Thank you so much Irena. I value your diligence and knowledge! Now is a good time to try True Botanicals. I plan to do just that. One can’t stop time but good care can certainly forestall some of it’s effects.
Great list! I use Annemarie! I love my Kleen Kanteen cup as well. We use and my husband really likes Lodge cookware. Once you get the hang of washing (or rather not washing them), they really work like non-stick. I’m not sure I understand your post about Numi tea?? I have their teas, but your post says…”All other organic teas I have found hemp cellulose in their tea bags.” Am I undersanding Numi makes the tea bags out of hemp cellulose, where other companies say they use it, but just add the cellulose “into” their tea bags?? Kinda like wines added wood chips to their wine barrels for that French or American wood effect on wine? I can’t do Crunchi…they use dimethicone and for me, that is a big no. It might work for others, but I’ve had too many issues with the skin on my body after using lotions with it for many years. It’s hard now to maintain a normal skin barrier. Otherwise, it looks really clean and that can be hard to find. What a wonderful gift and resource to us for you to put this together (not to mention the time in reviewing many products to make or not make the list!)! Thank you so much and Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Mary! It was a typo and corrected it. Thank you so much for pointing it out. I really appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving! ~Irina
Irina,
have you ever come across a company called: rawganique. I came across them today online and they claim to be make organic cotton, flax linen, and cannabis hemp products in USA, Canada, and Europe from organic cotton, flax linen, and cannabis hemp grown and naturally processed in USA and Europe.
Please let me know I am on the search for a hemp shower curtain.
Thank you,
Maria
I do remember them. I even signed up for their newsletter. Let me re-visit. Thank you for the reminder. ~Irina
I’ve been looking for an organic bathrobe for over 2 months now … and I have a question – why, everything that’s organic, has to be soooo ugly? I’m ok with unbleached fabric and pale colors, but what about the cut itself? Why can’t they sew it in a way that makes a woman look attractive in their clothing? Instead, most of organic clothes look like potato sacks or granny panties. Is it a general trend that women that care what their clothes are made out of don’t care how they make them look?
Just wanted to vent after looking at some rawganique designs … good lord, my husband would laugh his head off if he saw me wearing that.
I know. 🙂 ~Irina
There is a company Canadian based called Skin and quite a few of their products are organic cotton or organic pima cotton. You can find them also on major department store websites (search: skin, organic cotton) or they have their own site although the bigger stores have way better markdowns. Anyway, they are kind of pricey but I’ve bought several cotton robes and undergarments and pajamas/nightgowns and they are very well made and in my opinion very attractive. This is a robe I have in white and pale green: https://skinworldwide.com/collections/organic/products/karin-robe?variant=3518190026779 but I think these are getting mostly sold out as they’ve been for sale since the summer. But I find them very pretty and super soft. I know they are more expensive but the few pieces I’ve bought I don’t regret at all. I don’t work for them or anything like that but I’ve searched and searched also for nice organic clothing for women. I also like Coyuchi very much.
Hi,
Just be careful with Rawganique as I was considering purchasing there before but there were quite a lot of bad reviews. I think they were mainly about customer service and being ignored when you’d purchased something and had an issue with. Not necessarily their products. I didn’t feel comfortable purchasing there after reading reviews.
I am looking at some clothing options and yoga mats. thanks!
I do not recommend their yoga mats as even though they claimed that they are made of PVC without heavy metals, phthalates, etc, they won’t tell us what they use instead. I guess we just have to wait for a whistleblower to educate us on that. I see that they have a nice robe collection by Coyuchi. They are certified by GOTS so the dyes should be okay. Let me know if you have specific questions. ~Irina
great, thank you so much!
Hi Irina, thank you for such a great resource! So useful during this time of the year.
Quick question – you recommend blankets from the Ultimate Green store, what about other items they sell? Did you do any research on them? I am looking at some clothing options and yoga mats. thanks!
Hi, Natalia: it is hard to make a blanket statement about all products sold in the Ultimate Green store. Let me know what you are considering, and I can take a look for you. ~Irina
How about stylish organic clothing for women? Check out my neighbors – http://www.lady-farmer.com. I would love to hear of other companies that sell sustainable organic clothing!
Thank you, Miranda. I was able to find only organic t-shirts and yoga wear so far. I know we do need organic clothing! ~Irina
I just love this list, thank you Irina. Definitely going to get some of the books! I was wondering, bedding wise, organic is the best option in 100% cotton, but what about 100% cotton sateen, or percale?
Not sure I understand your question. Sateen and percale are types of cotton weave. ~Irina
I just bought that hemp shower curtain! I will definitely let you know how we like it.
Great! Please do. Thank you, Laura.
Regarding the kitchen, did you find something out about Elves & Angels? I know you previously wrote an article on them and Camden Rose so I am just curious. They also have kitchens. I am actually trying to decide between Camden Rose’s playstand or Elves & Angels for my almost 3 1/2 year old son.
Hi, Jessica: I had not looked into Elves & Angels since I wrote that post. But since you asked I’ve looked and I see that Elves & Angels use solid wood and CARB II plywood whereas Camden Rose is all solid wood. You might want to ask about that. ~Irina
Thank you, Irina. I ended up purchasing the Camden Rose playstand that should be here this Thursday.
I am so glad. They are heirloom pieces. ~Irina
Thank you for your list, Irina! 🙂 I LOVE Coyuchi as well for their organic bedding options. This is an awesome resource for holiday shopping! Thanks again!
Thank you Irina! I had considered glass but had not found smaller sets like those. We use glass cups with a lid & straw so going with smaller glass plates is great. Thank you again!
Thank you for this list. Love the ideas on here & I will be adding some items to my wish list. I was wondering what your thoughts on kids plates are? We are looking to replace the ones we have (& take our last step to being plastic free for the kids) & we are considering bamboo plates by Avanchy or Love Mae. Do you have any other suggestions or things to look for to make sure we are choosing a safe option? Thank you!
Hi, Kendra: bamboo is definitely better than plastic. However, there is not much information availble as to what may leach out of bamboo and most bamboo comes from China. You want to ask where bamboo came from, if bamboo is organic, and if there is any chlorine bleach and glue. Have you considered glass? I know it can break but tempered glass is more durable. These glass plates are made in France. Let me know what you find out. ~Irina
Great gift ideas! Thank you for doing all the research and your wonderful suggestions!!!
Love the holiday gift list suggestions! Thank you!!! It will be helpful and I already know what I will get for some of my family members now!
