Safe Exfoliating Peel for Radiant Skin

Since I wrote a review on Silk Therapeutics skincare, I have tried other Silk Therapeutics products and became more familiar with them.  Today I would like to share my experience with one of the Silk Therapeutics products that I think is of great value.  So even if you can’t afford using Silk Therapeutics non-toxic skincare products, you may add this product to boost your healthy beauty routine.  It is a renewing exfoliating peel for radiant skin with an anti-aging effect.

What I like about Silk Therapeutics skincare

One of the things I like about Silk Therapeutics skincare is their short list of ingredients.  Not only does this fact make my work easier, but also it decreases the risk of allergies.  With fewer ingredients, the chance that your skin will not like some of them is smaller.  On average, Silk Therapeutics safe skincare products have only 5-12 ingredients.

Another thing I like about this nontoxic skincare line for radiant skin is that its ingredients are EWG verified.  Those ingredients that have a rating of 2 or 3 on the general list of EWG ingredients get adjusted in individual Silk Therapeutics products based on their ingredient documentation.  After this their rating changes to 1.

Additionally, I can’t help but mention the absence of ethoxylated ingredients and synthetic fragrance or natural fragrance (a blend of undisclosed ingredients) and the use of some of the safest preservatives and emulsifiers.  You can read more about them in my Silk Therapeutics review.

The Silk Therapeutics safe exfoliating peel

And now let’s take a closer look at the safe renewing gel-based peel that I have been using for over a month now.  Does it contribute to radiant skin and anti-aging look?  Keep on reading to find out.

Ingredients

This safe exfoliating peel is a good example of a product with just five ingredients on the list.  They are

  • Soluble Fibroin (Activated Silk)
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Water
  • Lactic Acid
  • Cymbopogon Flexuosus (Lemongrass) Essential Oil

Let’s look into each ingredient and see how safe and effective it is for the skin.

Soluble Fibroin for radiant skin in this nontoxic exfoliating peel

Activated Silk is another name for soluble fibroin.  According to the Cosmetic Ingredient Review report of 2015, Bombyx mori silkworm produces soluble fibroin making it one of the two major protein components of silk cocoons.  The report does state that there is evidence of possible sensitization to silk.  However, the good news is that it comes from occupational exposure, and I believe it is irrelevant to skincare.

In skincare, soluble fibroin helps to smooth out the skin by filling in the wrinkles and keeping your skin collagen healthy.  I have seen this ingredient only in the Silk Therapeutics skincare line so far.  Silk fibers have other applications as well, such as in textiles and clinical implantation.

Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid in this exfoliating peel

These are naturally occurring organic acids also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHAs.  Skincare products utilize these acids for the purpose of improvement of the overall look and feel of the skin to create radiant skin.  They help to remove dead cells from the skin surface.  The primary source of lactic acid is milk.  Allegedly, Cleopatra was the first to use it by applying sour milk on her skin. Lemongrass Essential Oil in the exfoliating peel

I love the scent of lemongrass and use some bar soaps with it.  The lemongrass oil offers a pleasant scent but I want to emphasize that the scent is mild.  The reason this is important is that some companies claim to scent their products with essential oils only, but if the scent is too strong it is not very reassuring.  That may mean that essential oils are used in high concentration or there are some other undisclosed ingredients that may make the scent strong.

Even if only essential oils are used, they can have side effects.  The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy warns that if proper dilution is not used, instead of giving you radiant skin the lemongrass oil will cause skin irritation (source).  The lucky thing is that you have me.  I have been using this non-toxic exfoliating peel for over a month now without any problems, only skin improvements.

My impressions of the Silk Therapeutics exfoliating peel

Let me start by answering the question I posed above: does the Silk Therapeutics exfoliating peel contribute to a radiant skin and anti-aging look?  Yes, it does.  Here is what I do.

I apply this renewing gel-based peel exfoliator on my face twice a week and rinse it off after an hour or so.  The peel itself is enough to make my skin look rejuvenated by decreasing wrinkles and refining pores.  But the anti-aging effect is amplified when I add one more step to my skin treatment.

Silk + C30 Anti-Aging Films

After the safe exfoliating peel, I apply Silk Therapeutics Silk + C30 Anti-Aging Films with vitamin C.   What do these films do?  They help the pores on my face get smaller and my skin look young and fresh.  I really like both products a lot, especially when they work together.

To make it clear, I do realize that Silk Therapeutics skincare line is expensive even with my unique generous discount code (which you can use!  See below).  However, if you just add this exfoliating peel to your normal skincare routine without making major changes in other products, it will be a winning situation for you.  How so?

This peel will give you a salon-treatment effect for a much lower price than in a salon, and the films will intensify it.  Therefore, if you are looking for a substitute for salon visits, I would highly recommend trying the Silk Therapeutics safe exfoliating peel for radiant skin.
